Ana Rodriguez Prieto, CEO of the Italian start-up WonderGene, introduce the DNA Barconding: a method of species identification using a short section of DNA from a specific gene or genes.
This diagnostic tool is applied in many research areas such as taxonomy, description of new species, identification of cryptic species, conservation of endangered species, and environmental studies (eDNA).
One of the new areas where barcode analysis is gaining more prominence is the food industry, in particular to investigate the quality of the food we eat every day.
