The ACDC outreach programme ended with a big event addressed to the general public, companies, start-ups, master and PhD students:
“Artificial Life. Redesigning biology for applications in the life sciences”.
The talk took place at the MUSE on the 13th of July 2023.
Martin Michael Hanczyc, coordinator of the European project ACDC and responsible of the Artificial Biology Laboratory at the University of Trento, and Alan Dorin Professor of Information Technology at Monash University in Australia dialogued with journalist Cristina Kiran Piotti, from the magazine WIRED Italy, about artificial life and scientific advances in this field.
The event provided an opportunity to explore the research field of synthetic biology and artificial life in general and to learn about the latest scientific developments. Martin Hanczyc presented the achievements of the ACDC scientific research project toward building artificial cells, and Alan Dorin shared his perspective as a professor of Information Technology, bringing new insights when it comes to artificial intelligence. The two speakers shared the latest discoveries in the design and assembly of synthetic organisms, the engineering of living systems, the interrelation between biology and technology and the need to act collectively toward a more sustainable future, with a conscious and responsible use of science and technology advancements.
he discussion focused on the ethical and social aspects of artificial life and cutting-edge technologies, addressing the challenges and opportunities as mankind approaches the creation of new life forms in the laboratory.
80 people attended the event, animating the discussion with questions and reflections on what was discussed.
Simultaneous Italian-English translation and vice versa was provided to those present.
