Start-up School
In the framework of the ACDC project, MUSE - the science museum of Trento organised an entrepreneurship course for high school students, with the aim of illustrating the processes and tools to be considered in order to turn an idea into a business project, in particular case studies focused on the framework of ACDC themes.
The Start-up School has been organised by MUSE, with the participation and contribution of ACDC consortium.
PARTICIPANTS
Based on their motivational letter, 16 high school, students from North-Est Italy have been selected, coming from different high school:
- Liceo “A. Rosmini” – Trento
- Liceo “A. Maffei” – Riva del Garda
- Liceo “A. Rosmini” - Rovereto
- Liceo “L. Da Vinci” - Trento
- Liceo “Tron – Zanella” – Schio
- Liceo “G. Guetti” - Tione
- Liceo “G. Galilei” – Trento
- Istituto “Rosa Bianca” – Cavalese
Students have been guided by different mentors, experts in the field of innovation management, University professors, communication professionals, local innovative entrepreneurs and biology researchers:
- Nicola Doppio, innovation officer at HIT-Hub Innovazione Trentino,
- Alessandro Rossi, professor of Economics and Management at the University of Trento
- Ana Rodriguez Prieto, CEO and founder of Wondergene, a biotech start-up.
WHEN
The Start-up School took place in 2021, starting 1 February 2021 and scheduling one meeting per week.
WHERE
Following COVID-19 restrictions, all the modules have been held online, with the exception of the pre-session, held at the CIBIO, Department of Cellular, Computational and Integrative Biology of the University of Trento.
PROGRAMME
During the pre-session, ACDC project coordinator prof Martin gave an overview of the latest findings in the field of synthetic biology and of the objectives of the ACDC project. Moreover, students met the representatives of four University based start-ups, who presented their activities.

CONCLUSION
During the final event, the four groups of students presented their project in front of a jury composed of Milena Bigatto, expert in entrepreneurship training, Patrizia Famà, science communicator at MUSE, Dario Cecchi and Davide De Lucrezia.
All the projects were evaluated positively by the jury, in particular the jury considered the Timina group's presentation to be the most effective and their BIO2 project to be the most interesting.
According to the evaluation, students really appreciated this course and have been effectively involved in the reflections, visions and researches undertaken by the ACDC project.
